Handmade Palestine - Coming to Chico

Morgan Cooper Totah has lived in Occupied Palestine for 20 years. She lives with her Palestinian husband and their two children in his ancestral city of Ramallah in the West Bank. Morgan is the Founder of Handmade Palestine, a fair trade nonprofit dedicated to preserving the rich cultural heritage of Palestine and uplifting Palestinian artisans through promoting purchase of their products around the world.

Handmade Palestine provides a living income for many artisans across Palestine and also raises funds to support Mashjar Juthour, a 10-dunam nature reserve (about 2.5 acres) where native trees are protected and the community comes to learn about Palestine’s natural heritage.

This summer Morgan is touring communities in the U.S., bringing crafts for purchase, high-lighting traditional tatreez and other artisan-made Palestinian products. “Tatreez” is the highly intricate embroidery style unique to Palestine. She will be in Chico at The Palms on July 25, 1:00 to 5:00 pm, 2947 Nord Avenue.
The public is invited to view and purchase the products Morgan is bringing. She will give a presentation at 3:00 pm for us to learn more about the artisans she works with and about challenges of life in Palestine under occupation.

The event will have a festive atmosphere, with Palestinian music and perhaps some Dabka dancing. All are invited to attend. There is no entrance fee, but a delicious hot meal as well as snacks, baked goods, and traditional Palestinian cold drinks will be available for purchase.
