Iran War Protest
ISRAEL HAS DRAGGED THE USA INTO AN
UNJUSTIFIED, UNPROVOKED, DANGEROUS WAR
* Israel continuously violates the supposed “ceasefire” in Gaza and provokes terrible and escalating violence in the West Bank. Israel’s reign of terror on Palestine has never ended.
* Israel’s plans for the Palestinian territories include no opportunity for the Palestinian people to govern themselves, nor to live in peace with dignity.
* Netanyahu convinced Trump for the US to join Israel in an all-out war on Iran based on fabrications that Iran was about to attack Israel, that Iran was re-constituting nuclear weapons, and that the Iranian people would rise up and take back their country from the present regime. All lies!
* In just two weeks*, the “short” war on Iran has spiraled out of control with no end in sight. They bombed a girl’s elementary school, killing over 175, at least 13 US armed forces have been killed, and oil prices are skyrocketing worldwide.* The cost is already in the billions of US dollars, and now they are preparing to ask Congress for more billions..
* Israel is using this war with Iran as an excuse to bomb Lebanon, with over 800,000 displaced, and more than 800 killed including over 100 children, with fears Beirut will be bombed into oblivion. It now seems as if Israel is occupying Lebanon as it is occupying Gaza and the West Bank*
*As of this writing on March 15

Peace Vigil
The Chico Peace Vigil is open to all who wish to join in its mission of fostering a more peaceful world. As Israel’s violence against Palestine has escalated exponentially, the vigil has increasingly become a place where advocates for a free Palestine gather to protest about what is happening there. The vigil is held every Saturday at the intersection of Third and Main Streets in downtown Chico, 12:30 to 1:30 pm.
BFP welcomes folks to join us there. We have signs, or bring your own.
About the Vigil
The Chico Peace Vigil is likely the longest-running vigil for peace in the United States. The vigil began during the U.S. cold war with the Soviet Union, and has continued almost uninterrupted to this day. In 1960, the U.S. military installed a Titan nuclear base north of Chico, with three warheads aimed at the Soviet Union. Local residents Wilhelmina Taggart, Helen Kinney, and Florence McLane feared that nuclear missiles
located so close to town would make Chico a target for Soviet attack. They responded by going to the base weekly to pray, and awakened the local community to the dangers of nuclear weapons so close to town. The missiles were eventually removed in 1965, and the women moved their weekly vigils to downtown Chico, where other residents joined them. Since that time, every Saturday (except for a brief lapse during Covid) activists for peace have gathered at Third and Main Streets in Chico from 12:30 to 1:30, rain or shine, hot or cold, to support peace, social justice, and human rights. The messages on the signs change focus with the changing issues of the day, but they consistently
support peace.
